MOAB APPRECIATION DAY
Red Rock 4-Wheelers Host Community Trail Ride
The Red Rock 4-Wheelers hosted the third annual "Moab Appreciation Day" event on Wednesday, March 24th.
Twenty-three Moab area businesses attended the trail ride and lunch, as well as representatives from the Bureau of Land Management, School and Institutional Trust Lands Administration, and the Grand County Council.
The purpose of the event was twofold. First, it was a way for the Red Rock 4-Wheelers to show their appreciation to the community for their part in hosting the annual Easter Jeep Safari. And second, it was an opportunity for members of Moab businesses to learn something about the club, Jeep Safari, and 4-wheeling in general. |
Club members and guests gathered at Boomer's Market, where a brief "driver's meeting" was held before heading for the trail. A number of guests drove their own 4x4 vehicles, although most rode shotgun with a Red Rock club member. All together, over 30 rigs and 70 people participated, which included 25 hosts from the club.
The large contingent of 4x4's made their way to the Fins & Things trail, which is located in the Sand Flats Recreation Area. This beautiful and challenging route makes its way up, down, and around the slickrock fins that dominate the area, and includes steep climbs with names such as "Cooler Killer" and "Frenchie's Fin". The nearly two-hour trip provided an ample opportunity for participants to experience the scenery, thrills, and camaraderie that responsible 4-wheeling affords.
Upon completion of the trail, guests and hosts alike enjoyed a great sack lunch and soft drinks. The Red Rock 4-Wheelers gave a short presentation, which included some club and Jeep Safari history, as well as brief mention of other club projects and their educational and land use efforts. Finally, a drawing was held, with prizes donated by club member-owned businesses. |
